The value of this contribution is to show that, far from being «timid»(Nacib, 1986: 18), or that
of « a man who simply looks»(Guitton, 1986: p.19), the writing of Mouloud Feraoun, in Journal 1955-1962,
wants to be «reactive» (Tellier, 1998: 83) with respect to the dramatic scenes of which the colonial Algeria
of the fifties the theater.
We will see how, through his own experience of the war, this writer tries to reflect the image of his
community by reporting of the misery and suffering that gnaw at it.
It will be a question of explaining how the historical character of his diary results in a moving testimony
that stands out from the mythism of the official versions of some and the reductive descriptions of others.
