L’ éthos Discursif Chez Macron
Keywords:
Ethos, Macron, audience, discourse, politicsAbstract
The 2017 French presidential elections witnessed a turning point in French political history since
it brought to the head of the state the youngest president under the Fifth French Republic: an event as
important politically as discursively. This article deals with Macron’s speech at the Louvre, which should be
unifying and persuasive because it is his first public speech as head of state. We examine Macron's work on
the actual ethos (Mainguenau: 2012) in this discourse as well as the image he conveys through his speech.
We rely on the work of identity and ethos in both Maingueneau (2012) and Amossy (2006). We analyze this
discourse and highlight the various figures of the Macronian ethos.
