Two micro-epics are set in the novels Les écailles du ciel of Tierno Monénembo and Monnè, outrages et défis of Ahmadou Kourouma. After having shown how the parody of the epic genre from which they seem to proceed sheds new light on the external and endogenous causes which have favored the success of the French imperialist conquest in West Africa, the article reveals its negative repercussions on present-day Africa. It also reveals that, far from constituting bad recollections, those setbacks are a vital ferment to thwart the challenges that hold up the development of Africa.
