The purpose of this contribution is to analyze the spelling mistakes made by Algerian students enrolled in the DEFLE (Department of French Language Studies) at the University of Toulouse 2. We chose the spelling, on the one hand, because: it is sought in many areas, it remains a means of evaluation, and it is also sanctioned in the tests that do not relate directly to the spelling. On the other hand, if French spelling is already a problem for French-speaking native speakers, what about foreign students whose mother tongue is not French? The methodology chosen for the constitution of our corpus is the collection of written productions. In the first place, we will identify, classify and describe the various errors thanks to the typological scale of (Nina Catach, 1980). In the second place, we will interpret the presence of these errors based on the works of (Jaffré andFayol, 1997 and 2016).
