Abstract

From the reading of the novel, what the day owes to the night emerges certain determinism. It
seems that the socio-historical conditions of the colonized Algeria left their imprints and on the actants of the
narrative and the events related. is invited to relive the history of a country under the yoke of colonization
where stories of love, friendship, hatred, rancor and principles are mingled.
Moreover, space and time as well as characters are in dissociable units and inherent to any novelistic writing.
There is an analogy between the being and its name, which gives certain compatibility between the character
and his name. In addition, the name informs about the sex of the actant in the story. For this reason, it
seemed to us important, as a significant sign, to distinguish this minimal relation between the name of the
protagonist and his personality on the one hand and on the other hand between him and the others the
actanciel network, to return to this narrator and his quest for identity.
