Abstract

In this article, we will look at Isabelle Eberhardt's view of the common history that brings together
the two shores of the Mediterranean, Algeria and France, at a time marked by colonization and this, resorting
to the approach imagological in an attempt to reveal the cultural, social and ideological space that the
different images translate into his texts through the three levels of analysis established by Daniel-Henri
Pageaux. The selected stories are divided between history and memory, where the reconstitution, more or
less faithful to the reality that the author observed, readily took on the reflections of his perception, his
convictions, his ideology, his gaze on the "Other" she was defending or denouncing. Referring to a meeting, a
story heard, an event experienced by the author during her travels, the whole allows to draw the more or less
complex portrait of a society and an era crossed by it
