Histoire Familiale Et Histoire Collective Dans Deux Romans De Charif Majdalani
Abstract
In a country considered as a land of intercultural dialogue and coexistence of differents religious
communities but for over sixty years the scene of conflicts, the history occupies a prominent place. While
memory is always being masked by Lebanese government, Charif Majdalani reflects the XIXth and XXth centuries
in sagas which mingle family and community historical past, authenticity and fantasy to « reconstituer les
couleurs et les saveurs [...] des jours dont le souvenir est perdu » (HGM, 2005 : 271). This article will examine
the descriptions of picturesque landscape, memory of the relationship and Lebanese way of life, as well as
testimonies without any taboos of various wars that occurred in this area. Majdalani’s books help build a national
common memory, a memory which is linked to the soil and contributes to the pluralist and united identity.
