In this contribution wewilltry to see how the novel "The Year of the Lion" by Deon Meyer
revolvesaround the coronavirus. It is a premonitorynovelsinceitwaswrittenin 2016and publishedin 2017. On the
one hand, itturns out to be a place of value judgments, and givesrise to the expression of
preconceivedideasagainst the characters, most of whom have to manage extreme situations and
makedifficultdecisions. Onthe other hand, itisa work of deconstruction of thesestereotypes by putting the action
exclusively in Africa to demonstratethatthis covid19 virus or evenpandemic has not only hit Africa, but the
whole world.
