Image de l’Occidental dans le roman Le Gamin de la Rue Monge de Mohamed Zitouni entre vraisemblance et stéréotypie
Image of the Westerner in the novel Le Gamin de la Rue Monge by Mohamed Zitouni between verisimilitude and stereotypy
Keywords:
stereotype, image, western, politics, colonialAbstract
This article sets out to reveal the interplay between the stereotypes surrounding the image of the
Westerner in the colonial period and their discursive staging in this novel. The aim is to demonstrate that the
image of the Westerner put forward by the author differs from the generalized stereotype demonizing him.
However, the image of the Westerner that emerges from the story is nuanced, as it introduces a key
distinction in which the French colonizer is presented as the enemy, while the Western foreigners who came
to populate Algeria are presented as friends, victims as they were of a bad colonial policy.
