Despite the negative connotation associated with stereotypes, they persist and can even become a
form of popular wisdom. Our reflection seeks to address the impact of stereotypes on Africans and their
culture through the authorial stance and the representation of the dominated by the dominant, as well as the
strategies to deconstruct the demeaning gaze fueled by stereotypes.
