The literary engagement of Rachid Boudjedra during the black decade in Algeria

Abstract

The writer Rachid Boudjedra who, from the very start of the Eighties, already was threatened
of died because of his standpoint and his literature considered to be subversive, crossed with his work this
zone of turbulence which was the black decade in Algeria. We propose to operate a reading of its texts
published in reaction to the tragic context of this period in order to clarify its literary engagement.
Engagement which does not attenuate of anything the aesthetic share of these publications which are next
to the topicality of the time and which belong to various kinds. Besides we harness ourselves to show the
processes of the new novel put into practice by our author and which lead to poetic particular, that of a
« off-hand unconsciousness ».
