La transculturalité comme horizon d’attente de l’écriture de Rachid Boudjedra
Transculturality as a horizon of expectation Rachid Boudjedra's writing
Keywords:
triptych approach, horizon of expectation, conflict, alteration, otherness, transculturalityAbstract
The novelistic work of Rachid Boudjedra seems to respect a triptych approach which is often
confirmed by the identical outcome of his stories: conflict, alteration and otherness. The horizon of expectation
of Boudjedra's reader is a real fabric with several valences in this sense given that the interaction between
different cultural identities is the source of a fairly complex and conflicting relationship. The objective of this
work is to understand how transcultural dynamics are the substrate of the functioning of Boudjedra's writing.
Three elements make it possible to analyze and resolve this problem. First of all, the difference in identities
among the characters is an issue of conflict. Then, these conflicts manifest themselves through acts of
subversion or transgression on the one hand, and through forms of alteration on the other. Finally, we see that
the outcome of subversion and alteration favors the emergence of figures of otherness. The interpretation of
these elements allows us to take an innovative look at Boudjedra's romantic work which reveals an aestheticism
based on transculturality.
