Littérature égyptienne d’expression francophone : Deux portraits, deux œuvres
French-speaking Egyptian literature: Two portraits and two literary works
Abstract
French-language Egyptian literature remains little-known, despite the abundant and remarkable works it has produced. Ignoring this literature means ignoring an important period in Egyptian and universal literary history. This article, which aims to shed light on this literature of multiple voices and high literary quality, first presents the historical context of its emergence, reviewing the circumstances of Egypt's opening to French expression. Then, to demonstrate the aesthetic and generic diversity of this literature, it presents two portraits of French-speaking Egyptian writers, George Henein and Albert Cossery, and their works.
