Intertextuality: A Medium for the Unspeakable in L’empereur à pied (2017) of Cahrif Majdalani and L’étrave, Voyages à travers l’islam (2017) of Nabile Fares
Keywords:
ntertextuality, the unspeakable, Francophone literature, trauma, fratricidal conflictsAbstract
In its exploration of the traumas of the Lebanese and Algerian fratricidal conflicts, this article examines how writers like Wajdi Mouawad and Nabile Farès use intertextuality to give voice to the unspeakable. By linking their personal experiences and those of their characters through intertextual references, these authors enrich the universal collective memory of conflicts. Intertextuality thus acts as a bridge between individual realities and the shared experiences of diverse nations, allowing for profound reflection on the periods of extreme violence.
