Abstract

The study of argumentation in the journalistic genre has different strategies in order to reach a
certain audience and convey to them the message dictated by the editorial line that varies from one
newspaper to another. That said, the colonial journalistic genre is no exception to the rule, in particular the
daily newspaper L'Echo d'Alger, to act on the composite readership in Algeria from 1960 to 1962.
In this article, we are interested in the concept of argumentation and its application as a "problem of
influence" in discourse analysis. We examine, for this, the processes put in interaction (Charaudeau) by the
newspaper in question to influence the readers (pro French Algeria / anti French Algeria).
