Le Concept De Aḫlaq (éthique) Chez Abu ḥayyan Al-tawḥidi : Une Introduction à La Lecture De Kitab Aḫlaq Al-wazirayn

Abstract

In this article we attempt a reading of Abû Ḥayyân al-Tawḥîdî’s Kitâb aḫlâq al-Wazîrayn, with the main objective of answering two basic questions: first, what meaning did al-Tawḥîdî give to the term Aḫlâq which he had chosen to include in the title of his work? Secondly, what was the exact purpose of this text, that is to say what was al-Tawḥîdî’s philosophico-ethical aim in writing and publishing this work? These two questions are closely interrelated because the way in which we reconstruct the meaning given by al-Tawḥîdî to the concept of aḫlâq will completely determine the reach we will confer to the whole work: on what level and in what latitude of thought did al-Tawḥîdî intend to set the debate in this book ?
