Abstract

In Algerian novels of French expression, the language takes on a particular status. Writers use
dialect, mother or popular language in their novelistic productions to express their thoughts. They use
expressions that are considered language stereotypes, trying to translate them into French but sometimes the
translation seems unfaithful to the fixed meaning. Thus the meaning generates a cognitive conflict in the two
receivers: French-speaking Algerian or French-speaking foreigner, which leads to the deconstruction of the
language stereotype.
