In this article, our reflection revolves around the practice of the personal diary as a means of learning in the Algerian university context. Our research consists of asking whether the use of this type of personal and extra-academic writing can motivate French-speaking students and improve their writing skills. An experimental study with first year undergraduate students was carried out. The results obtained highlight the advantage of this practice which allows the student to self-train in French by recounting their daily life and reflecting on their own practices
