From fiction to reflection: ideological and philosophical representations and resonances in TomiUngerer’s children’s album Le Nuage Bleu

Abstract

omiUngerer is both the author and illustrator of the album Le Nuage bleu published in 2000, the subject of our contribution. This contemporary Alsatian polymathic artist has largely contributed through a prolific literary production to the strengthening of children's literature via his albums considered as flagship works, which has legitimized their adoption in the reference lists of cycle 3 in France since 2007. The first discovery of the work did not leave us indifferent as to the content of the two ideological and philosophical discourses in the album. Therefore, we have attempted in this reflection to circumscribe the contribution of ideology and philosophy in the identity formation of the young reader through this album by mainly calling upon three approaches: semio-icontoxtual, ideological and philosophical. The main interest of this analysis is to demonstrate that the youth album constitutes not only a tacit reservoir of socio-historical-cultural knowledge but also the foundation of an ethical project of psychosocial shaping of the young reader.
