his paper examines how LeïlaSebbar’s children’s books combine text and image to convey both ideological and philosophical discourse. Using a semiotic approach, we analyze how the iconotext – the inseparable unity of text and image – functions as a narrative and didactic medium. The corpus studied includes Ismaëldans la jungle des villes (1986) and J’étais enfant en Algérie – juin 1962 (1997), two of Sebbar’s works for young readers. The analysis shows that text-image interaction generates multiple layers of reading, making it possible to address complex themes in an accessible way. In doing so, Sebbar anchors an ideological message – concerning historical memory, immigration, tolerance – while prompting philosophical reflection in young readers.
