Nos richesses / A Bookshop in Algiers: Cultural Transfers in Literary Translation
Keywords:

This paper explores how Chris Andrews’s English version of Kaouther Adimi’s Nos richesses conveys the novel’s Franco-Algerian fabric. Through selected examples, it observes the translator’s balance between preserving local colour and making pragmatic adjustments for English-speaking readers. Findings suggest that effective cultural mediation emerges from contextual loyalty, linguistic clarity and sensitivity to narrative cadence, enabling the target audience to experience a text that remains accessible and true to the spirit of the original.
