From Transculturation to Mediation – Between Translatability and Fidelity in Mes hommes by Malika Mokeddem and رجالي by Nahla Baidhoun"
Keywords:
Translation, Literature, Transculturation, Mediation, Intercultural Competence.Abstract
This article examines the praxis of translation as an act of intercultural mediation, in which the literary text is transformed into a space of transfer, acculturation, and renewal. Through the novel Mes hommes by Malika Mokeddem and its translation by Nahla Baidhoun, it brings to light the tensions between fidelity, equivalence, and creativity, while emphasizing the role of the translator as a cultural mediator and negotiator of linguistic, cultural, and ideological universes. In this sense, any translational intervention concerned with building a bridge between cultures—particularly those belonging to different civilizational spheres—and any
praxis inscribed within the axiological framework necessarily requires intercultural competence.
